It commemorates the victory of the Maccabees over the Syrian Greek army, and the subsequent miracle of rededicating the Holy Temple in Jerusalem and restoring its menorah, or lamp. The miracle of Hanukkah is that only one vial of oil was found with just enough oil to illuminate the Temple lamp for one day, and yet it lasted for eight full days. Here are eight ways to celebrate.

As the days of Hanukkah are on the heels of Thanksgiving, Primo’s Donuts is once again offering their Hanukkah donuts which include traditional sufganiyot and mini jelly-filled versions as well as Star of David fritters. They can accommodate orders of any size and welcome orders from synagogues and schools and are available starting November 26 through December 6.
Wise Sons holiday catering menu is putting an elevated take on classics, like braided challah, chicken broth and matzo balls, potato latkes with additional latke bar sides, roast chicken as well as cinnamon or chocolate babka loaf and assorted rugelach. The Hanukkah catering menu is available for delivery or pickup through online ordering and will be available from November 27 through December 6. Orders must be placed by 9 a.m. two days prior to delivery.
The holiday begins a little earlier this year and Dylan’s Candy Bar has a new Hanukkah collection that is entirely kosher. 2ND & PCH in Long Beach will celebrate the Festival of Lights with the Shul by the Shore Grand Chanukah Extravaganza on Sunday, November 28 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. to commemorate the first night of Chanukah. The celebration is free and open to all. The lighting of the menorah will take place at 4:00 p.m. on the 2ND & PCH grand staircase led by Rabbi Abba Perelmuter. Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia will speak immediately following the lighting, joined by other community leaders. Entertainment will include a live three-piece band, a stilt walker and crafts for children. Pre-packaged doughnuts and latkes as well as chocolate gelt will be served at no charge.
