Who doesn't love Cannibal Corpse? Anyone? Just raise your hand if you dislike the iconic gore-core band, who have spent over 20 years mortifying parents with their murder obsessed lyrics, and high-speed headbanging? Anyone? Alright Bob Dole, you can put your “hand” down. Ok, so the pencil holding, Pepsi-drinking former presidential candidate, Bob Dole denounced Cannibal Corpse (along with Geto Boys and 2 Live Crew) for their descriptions of “mindless violence and loveless sex.”
But we love them. Cannibal Corpse and the entire gore core subgenre of metal (see also Pig Destroyer and Cattle Decapitation) are the equivalent of Grindhouse films. They're brutal, relentless and pretty hilarious. Tonight Cannibal Corpse plays with Skeletonwitch at the Sunset Strip House of Blues for a not-to-be-missed performance. “Hammer Smashed Face” is a metal classic and when it comes to blast beats and breakdowns, few do it better than Cannibal Corpse. And of course, their shirts are amazing. Rumor has it that the sales of their shirts outnumber their record sales 2-to-1. Ask them at the merch booth. Then there's the lyrics, which truly are an artform. No really. After 22 years as a band, Cannibal Corpse can still come up with new words for disemboweling nuns or sleeping inside a cadaver, Tauntaun-style.
Still skeptical? After the jump read all of Cannibal Corpse's lyrics and witness the genius.
