Halloween is a time of Fear: Los Angeles punks Fear, founded in 19077, perform at the outdoor Garden Amp in Garden Grove on Friday. Also on the impressive bill is Manic Hispanic, Lower Class Brats, the Henchmen, Matamoska and La Pobreska.

It’s been nine years since Fear rerecorded their classic debut The Record album is The Fear Record. And 22 years since their last album of brand new material — 2000’s American Beer. Yet Lee Ving and crew have consistently gotten out there and performed live. Because we all love “I Love Livin’ in the City” and “I Don’t Care About You.”

Back in March 2018, when we spoke to Ving prior to Fear’s appearance at the MusINK festival, he told us: “I always have an eye and ear to the ground for the music here in our hometown, and I think that it’s made measurable progress since the old days when it was not welcome everywhere, and shows of that nature were harder to place,” Ving says. “But it’s come full circle, and that music in general is part of the way that punk rock is much more accepted than it used to be. It was an item of its own, and I think it’s absolutely more mainstream now, and popular among lots and lots of people. It’s good for everybody.”

Halloween is a time of Fear: The event takes place at 6 p.m. on Friday, October 29 at the Garden Amp.

ALSO THIS  WEEK: KNIFE PARTY

Academy

It’s a Halloween Knife Party: Australian duo Knife Party will be performing at the Academy on Halloween, which seems entirely appropriate. The project was named after a song on metal band Deftones’ White Party album; they once said during an interview with MixMag that, “…we’re not advocating any type of knife-related crime any more than Swedish House Mafia were advocating organized crime.”
