Paulo Ortiz Arrested after Police Pursuit in Greenfield

– Tuesday morning, Guadalupe Garcia was pronounced dead after a car chase on 101 Freeway.

For unclear reasons, 24-year-old Paulo Ortiz led police on a pursuit around 10:15 a.m. Officers attempted to stop him using spike strips along Highway 101, but were unsuccessful.

After hopping the freeway towards Soledad, Ortiz began traveling through the downtown area. Shortly after, Ortiz struck a police vehicle as well as 65-year-old Garcia. Officers identified Garcia as the father of a local law enforcement officer in Soledad.

Soledad Police Chief Damon Sasson stopped the suspect’s threats by ramming him head-on before he could reach the busy downtown.

Ortiz was later charged with murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and evading police. His bail has been set at more than $1 Million.

No further details regarding the crash are public at this time. However, more information will be provided once made available.
