Grace Restaurant, Neal and Amy Knoll Fraser's Beverly Boulevard restaurant, is deservedly known for its doughnuts, which have remained excellent even as pastry chefs have come and gone. Pastry chefs Elizabeth Belkind, Robert Tarlow and now Mariah Swan have made the doughnuts at Grace alone worth the trip. Here is one incarnation, salted caramel doughnuts with bourbon becan ice cream, on the dineLA restaurant week menu, which has just been extended. (Wednesday is Doughnut Shoppe night, if you want more of them.) The donuts will follow the Frasers downtown, when Grace closes and relocates in St. Vibiana's next year.

Knoll Fraser says that the current Grace will stay open at least until the first of the year, and perhaps until next summer, depending on escrow (the building is on the market). The BLD just down the street on Beverly will stay put; a second is set to open in Pasadena, although the Frasers aren't sure when. There can be multiple BLD's, said Knoll Fraser the other night; “there can only be one Grace.” Fortunately, there will be many more doughnuts.
