It looks to be an un-lovely Valentine's Day for gr/eats. Even as the stretch of Sawtelle between Santa Monica and Olympic experiences a raft of restaurant openings — ramen shop Tsujita, cafes Balconi Coffee Company and Coffee Tomo, shaved ice shops Blockheads and Brian's Shave Ice, and the impending opening of a new Ramen Jinya outpost and gastropubby/cocktaily Plan Check (with Pablo Moix and Steve Livigni on the drinks menu) — the Giant Robot cafe will close on Feb. 13. The restaurant slated to replace it is reported to be a tsukemen ramen shop.

A post last week on the Giant Robot blog announced the closure of the 7-year-old cafe.

Until it closes, the cafe is offering farewell specials of 20% off several sandwiches, donburi, curry, noodle, seafood dishes and other entrees.
