0 9Day of the Dead was this past Tuesday but for the Gothic community, everyday has a deathly decadence, doesn’t it? Several dark denizens from the scene in L.A. -including Lisa Derrick, art maven and occasional LA Weekly contributor- are putting on a Goth Picnic this Sunday to punctuate the week.

The macabre mixer in the park promises to provide a wickedly post-punkish way to cap off the recent mourning and remembrance, and get social with like-minded local souls. Conversation, strolls around the lake, feasting, swan boat rides and more promise an atmospheric event. There will also be a sunset ritual at 4:45 p.m. by the witches of Belle, Book & Candle, spooky/moody sounds courtesy DJ Baby Magick and Derrick says bats even appear in the park at dusk! Dogs on leashes are welcome and boat reservations in advance are recommended.

“My friends and I invited our friends to come picnic and celebrate the dead, to mourn in our individual and collective fashions, and it just grew,” says Derrick of the event. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, picnic baskets, wear all black everything or funeral finery, and of course, “sunblock is a must.”
