And now a heartwarming story to help you kick off the holiday season.

The Black Eyed Peas famously asked us, “Where Is the Love?” Where indeed, will.i.am? You know where it is: It's right here in California.

Attorney General Kamala D. Harris this week announced the results of annual hate crime data for the Golden State in 2012. Good news:

Reports of hate crimes were down nearly 13 percent in 2012, Harris' office says: They decreased from 1,060 in 2011 to 930 in 2012.

In nearly 10 years, hate crime reports were down 37.6 percent, the A.G.'s folks say.

Harris:

While overall numbers are down this year, any hate crime hurts the people and values of California. I am confident that California law enforcement will monitor and prosecute these cases to ensure severe consequence and accountability.

Race (ethnic and nationality) -based hate crime is down slightly more than 10 percent since 2011. But you love to bash your brothers from other backgrounds, because those kinds of crimes still accounted for more than half (56.8 percent) of all hate reports.

Sexual-orientation hate crimes were down 3.7 percent for the year. Those involving “religious bias” decreased 27.9 percent.

But … Harris' folks say the way sexual-orientation hate crimes are measured will change next year to account for “gender nonconforming” hate crime reports (we're guessing that means transgender folks), which, in our opinion, could boost the numbers.

For now, enjoy our peace on earth.
