38-Year-Old Driver Dies after Being Struck While Putting Gas in Vehicle
RIVERSIDE, CA (August 9, 2023) – Early Monday morning, Gilberto Sotelo was killed after he was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle.
The incident happened on August 7th at about 1:45 a.m., in the southbound lanes of Interstate 215, just north of La Cadena Drive.
Investigation showed that 38-year-old Gilbert Sotelo pulled over to the side to fill up his gas tank. It was unknown if he had gas from his trunk or refilled from a gas station.
Furthermore, as he was filling up the gas tank, a blue-colored vehicle suddenly drove into him and struck both Sotelo and his car.
In addition, the driver that struck Sotelo did not stop, and he immediately drove away upon hitting him.
Consequently, witnesses immediately called the authorities and reported the incident.
Unfortunately, Sotelo did not survive the extent of his injuries and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Moreover, the authorities searched for the suspect in the area but they have not located him.
