31-Year-Old Man Arrested after Fatal Two-Car Crash near Oswell Street

BAKERSFIELD, CA (December 2, 2022) – Early Sunday morning, Gilberto Gallegos was arrested after a DUI crash that left one woman dead.

The incident happened around 2:15 a.m., on the westbound lanes of Highway 58 near Oswell Street on November 27th.

According to police, a 50-year-old woman and a 58-year-old man were sitting in a disabled Ford Thunderbird on the side of the highway. A northbound Chevrolet Silverado driven by Gallegos then rear-ended the Ford.

Upon impact, the Chevrolet continued and overturned onto the dirt shoulder of the road. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced the 50-year-old female driver of the Ford dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, the 58-year-old male passenger remained uninjured. Crews also transported Gallegos to Kern Medical for further treatment of minor injuries.

Following preliminary duties, officers arrested 31-year-old Gallegos on DUI charges. Once available, further details will be provided.
