Rain may have kept thousands of revelers from dancin’ in the streets of downtown on New Year’s Eve, but a summer night should be just right for the return of Giant Village. Yup, this weekend Dave Dean and the Giant peeps are bringin’ their village of delights — a huge ferris wheel; video, light and art installations; full bars; and, of course, mega DJs — to four blocks in the Civic Center neighborhood. Headliner Paul Oakenfold will be a huge draw, especially with his new release, A Lively Mind, burning up the clubs and radio airwaves. (The sexy first single — “Faster Kill Pussycat,” featuring vox by Brittany Murphy — sizzles . . . who would of thunk the gal could sing?) Also rocking bodies are The Crystal Method, whose high-energy mixes apparently aren’t just good for nonstop boogieing: The guys’ latest sound concoction, called Drive: Nike + Original Run, can be heard on iTunes as part of the new Sports Music Section — and break out the headband, ’cause this one will make ya sweat. So will the rest of the lineup: Deep Dish, Christopher Lawrence, Mark Farina and more. Sat., July 22, 8 p.m.-4 a.m.; over 21. On Wilshire Blvd., btwn. Hope and Grand sts.; $75 advance, $80 at the door. For details, go to www.giantvillage.com.
