Emo wasn't always a bad word. Before “the Myspace photo,” boys with sideswept bangs and half-goth girls began fake crying over suburban life, there was the orginal emos Sunny Day Real Estate, Promise Ring, and Jawbreaker.

These mid-1990s emos chilled out the preachy yelling of emo originator Ian MacKaye and shared fashion sense with the Dick the meek record clerk from Hi Fidelity. Tonight, as emo's godfather, the Get Up Kids, pays a visit the Avalon with Youth Group we present to you a video tribute to original Emo:
