IPic, the national theater chain that specializes in luxury moviegoing, has announced Sherry Yard –  legendary pastry chef, longtime head of pastry for Wolfgang Puck's empire, cookbook author and multiple James Beard Award winner – as its vice president of culinary direction. What does this mean? It means that soon you'll be able to get Sherry Yard treats at the concession stand of iPic's Pasadena theater, as well as its new location in Westwood, set to open this spring.

IPic has always traded in combining moviegoing with drinking and dining. Its theaters have cocktail bars and restaurants attached, as well as concessions that go well beyond Milk Duds. Yard's involvement ought to make those concessions even more impressive. From the press release:

In her new role, Yard will oversee culinary direction for all existing and upcoming restaurant concepts for iPic Entertainment including Tanzy, Tanzy Express, Big Daddy's Brew & Que, Salt and Salt Sports Bars.

Yard told us she would be putting her own creations, as well as “goodies” that will be sold at her upcoming Helms Bakery, in the concession stands. She also said she'd be creating “fun party food” for the theater.

And what of that Helms Bakery? “This will not delay Helms, not at all,” Yard says. But while she and business partner Sang Yoon are waiting on approval from the city and other issues associated with opening a giant food operation, Yard is excited to work with iPic. “You know me,” she says. “I can't sit still.”
