Picture this: You're sweating through an interview with a film studio honcho. He says he's interested in producing a drama with a strong Glenn Ford type in the lead and would like your suggestions. Your head's swimming. Is he related to Harrison? Gerald? Galpin? If you're still without an industry job after getting that master's in film from USC or NYU or AFI, it might help if you brushed up on basic film history. Instead of IMDb'ing that name, spend an evening learning about the celebrated star of films such as Gilda, Teahouse of the August Moon and Blackboard Jungle. Author Peter Ford hosts an evening dedicated to his famous father's life with a video presentation, Q&A and signing of his book, Glenn Ford: A Life. Ford also shares personal photos, recorded interviews, letters, diaries, unpublished interviews and audiotapes. At the very least, learning about Ford might help you gussy up your Netflix queue.
