Between pop-ups and sausagefests, there's been a lot going on at downtown wine bar Mignon lately. First came the news that Gary Menes would be continuing his Le Comptoir dinner service on Monday and Tuesdays at Mignon through the end of October, a happy sign for fans of the chef's 18 year-old starter bread or sizzling eggs in cocotte.

Now comes the announcement that owner Santos Uy and Kevin Stuart of Infinity Imports are teaming up to debut a weekly pop-up all about German sausage. It's called Knackig, which is pronounced with about the same sound that someone would make if they took too large of a bite off their kielbasa. (Actually, it refers to the “snap” sound sausages make when bitten into.)

Imported offerings like bratwurst, knackwurst, kielbasa, and kasekrainer will be grilling up right in front of the restaurant, and will be served with German beers and wines, plus chef Tim Carey's (Papilles) traditional potato salad. As a bonus, the first fifty people who show up on Sunday, Sept. 16 from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. will get a free sausage. Look for Knackig outside Mignon every Sunday through October from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
