A young Latino man was killed by an alleged gang member in the North Hills at 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 19. The victim has since been identified as 18-year-old German Chairez Jr.

Chairez was standing with a friend on Parthenia Street, near the Sepulveda Recreation Area, when an unidentified shooter approached them and starting firing shots from a handgun.

The assailant kept shooting as the pair ran into an apartment complex at 15115 Parthenia St., hitting Chairez in the back of his torso and along his right toes, according to the coroner.

LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman told City News Service on Nov. 20 that police believe the shooter to have been an “armed gang member.” However, she then told the Los Angeles Times that police are unsure of his motives, and only know he fled on foot.

Eisenman added that the other young man who had been standing with Chairez was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was reported as in stable condition.

Anyone with additional information about the crime is urged to call the LAPD Mission Division detectives at (818) 838-9800.
