24-Year-Old Pronounced Dead after Auto Collision near Friars Road

SAN DIEGO, CA (April 28, 2022) – Monday morning, 24-year-old Gerardo Becerra was killed in a rear-end accident on State Route 163.

The incident occurred around 6:40 a.m., on the northbound lanes of the highway near Friars Road.

According to reports, Becerra was driving a Ford Fusion north at a high rate of speed when he rear-ended a slow moving sanitation truck.

Due to the impact of the collision, medics pronounced Becerra dead at the scene.  However, no other injuries were reported at the scene.

The surrounding area was closed for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties. Although, authorities have not yet released the identities of the others involved.

At this time, San Diego Officials are still working to identify further circumstances surrounding the crash.
