Rider Killed in Vehicle Collision near Taglio Road

MERCED, CA (March 29, 2022) – Wednesday afternoon, George Griset was hurt while a rider died in a crash near Taglio Road, police said.

According to California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred sometime before 4:54 p.m. on March 23th.

Furthermore, a police investigation found that 84-year-old Griset was slowly driving a 2019 Honda north along Whitworth Road, heading towards the intersection where he planned on making a left turn.

Meanwhile, a man, whose identity was being withheld, was riding a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle southbound on Whitworth, also approaching the intersection at a high rate of speed.

Consequently, the vehicles collided at the intersection, resulting in the death of the motorcyclist. Their identity has not been released as of this time.

Griset sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Neither drugs nor alcohol appears to be a factor in the collision, CHP said initially.
