The hero of Western TV and film was also behind the beloved Christmas songs “Frosty the Snowman” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” which makes this the perfect time of year to celebrate the “Singing Cowboy.” Today, the museum screens two Gene Autry classics: Sunset in Wyoming (1941) and The Cowboy and the Indians (1949). In the former, Autry plays a rancher who fights an evil lumber company to protect his valley from being flooded. In the latter, Autry goes against a crooked trading-post proprietor to save members of a Navajo tribe from malnutrition, and sings his other holiday hit, “Here Comes Santa Claus (Right Down Santa Claus Lane),” which he wrote.
