L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa … yawn … announced his … yawn … new chief of staff … yawn … today. (Sort of).

And if we were said jefe, one Gaye Williams, onetime deputy to Mayor Richard Riordan and an adviser to mayoral hopeful Austin Beutner, we'd be bummed that Villaraigosa's staff chose a lazy Friday afternoon in July — when he was en route to meet the royal couple — to make the big announcement leak this.

A diss? A little hazing for the new kid?

Anyway, now that we're up after our afternoon siesta and had our usual sip of Sugar Free Rockstar, the news is that Williams is quickly stepping in to replace Mayor V.'s last chief, Jeff Carr, a reverend by trade who transitioned to lead Villaraigosa's anti-gang office before lasting two years as the top dog on the mayor's team.

Bumped into him once. Nice, smart, tall white guy. But as our boss says, the city's full of 'em.

The Los Angeles Times cited one source who said mayoral staffers confronted Carr last last week about his management style. A coup?

As for Willaims? We're not sure. We can't even find a photo of him/her. Not even sure if it is a him or a her. Let's check our own, personal Deep Throat, whom we'll just refer as Mrs. Gray Latte:

Wait, it's a her.

Way to get the word out, mayor's office. We look forward to seeing the official press photo.
