As the whole world has gone “Gangnam Style,” even Saturday Night Live over the weekend, a flash mob featuring the song's rapper, Psy, was planned for 2 p.m. at The Grove shopping center today. (Kind of takes the “flash” out of flash mob when you know all the deets hours ahead of time).

But the big news over the weekend was that South Korean pop star Psy himself, who recently taught Britney Spears how do dance “Gangnam Style” on The Ellen Degeneres Show, is asking El Monte city officials to rehire lifeguards fired for making a Gangnam spoof video on taxpayers' property:

Psy told MTV News over the weekend that

I'm begging you to not fire please. Because they were enjoying their souls with some other cultures and it was even off duty… so please if you know me.

… That's not fair. I don't think so. What did they do? They weren't wrong? I think it was off duty — that's what I heard. They can be more flexible to each other.

We reached out to El Monte city officials for comment but had yet to hear back.
