Traffic Accident on 23rd Street Left 7-Year-Old Dead

LONG BEACH, CA (July 28, 2022) –  A pedestrian crash on Lakewood Boulevard claimed the life of 7-year-old Gabriel Garate Tuesday evening.

According to initial reports, the incident happened around 5:25 p.m. on Lakewood Boulevard and 23rd Street.

Furthermore, investigators said a 2005 Dodge Ram pickup truck struck the boy while crossing the street with his father.

Eventually, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office and the Long Beach Police department stated that Gabriel Garate died at the scene.

Meanwhile, authorities arrested the 57-year-old pickup driver, identified as James Barnes, under suspicion of vehicular manslaughter.

However, Barnes was released early Wednesday on a $50,000 bond.
