It usually takes years of hard failure to become an overnight success — comedian Marc Maron discusses that and more with director Judd Apatow in an evening that covers everything from his garage-recorded WTF podcast's cavalcade of comedians to the reason Jon Stewart won't appear on his show. It's actually a fairly good time to be Marc Maron: his cat-fanciful, drug-fueled, divorce-obsessed memoir, Attempting Normal, bookends his success with his new IFC show Maron, which debuted May 3 and is at this point subject to all the adulation or scornful cackles tonight's audience sees fit to heap upon him. “Truly one of the greatest of all time,” quoth Louis C.K., and who better to know greatness than one who's traveled a road similar to Maron's, laboring in near-lethal obscurity until finally winning recognition — both as a celebrity and a skilled interpreter of the human condition.
