You're no Sylvia Weinstock or Duff Goldman, you tell yourself. Some of us can barely work an Easy-Bake oven. But even in the hands of a professional, a spatula can be a deadly weapon. So before heading to the local bakery for that next special occasion, check out the gooey gore on Cakewrecks.com. Since 2007, Jen Yates has been collecting disaster photos of poorly decorated cakes — with typos, grammatical errors, misunderstood instructions, etc. — by bakers who were either drunk, stoned (probably both) or flunked out of pastry school. Like many popular blogs, the Web site has spawned a book, Cake Wrecks: When Professional Cakes Go Hilariously Wrong , and Yates' reading will be accompanied by a slide show, cupcake contest based on her best worst photos and free cake. Eat at your own risk.
