The second annual Los Angeles Turkish Film Festival is in town at the Egyptian Theatre through Sunday with a lineup of four feature films (The Butterfly's Dream, Beyond the Hill, Mold and Inside) as well as a series of nine shorts that were finalists in a competition hosted by film critic Elvis Mitchell. At 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Mold — about a reclusive man who petitions the authorities in his search for his son, who was taken into custody 18 years earlier — will be shown, followed by a Q&A with writer-director Ali Aydin.

Meanwhile, Cinefamily hosts the second annual Wayne Federman International Film Festival, in which well-known stand-ups choose and introduce a film that has influenced them and then participate in a postscreening Q&A. On Friday, Dana Gould (with Dr. Strangelove, or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb) and Aziz Ansari (with Back to the Future) will be present starting at 7:30 p.m. The festival starts Thursday, Feb. 28, and continues on Saturday.

The inaugural CineMayhem Film Fest celebrates independent horror films this weekend over at the Muvico Thousand Oaks. Saturday's schedule of films starts at noon with The Sleeper — a murderous stalker ruins a sorority party — and lasts through the 8:45 p.m. advance screening of The ABCs of Death, a horror anthology featuring 26 shorts, each with a different director, each starting with a different letter. Some of the more intriguing inspirations: fart, ingrown, toilet, orgasm and WTF.

Nicotine Stains has its world premiere at 9:30 p.m. at the Art Theatre in Long Beach. Also an independent horror film, it explores the dark world of addiction through the story of Charlie (Matt Fowler), a tobacco company employee who decides to quit smoking after prompting from his girlfriend (Lacy Hornick). The resulting hallucinations and nightmares exacerbate his bipolar disorder. Cast and crew will be in attendance for a meet-and-greet after the screening.

Thursday, March 7

This night will feature never-before-seen footage of the hit show as well as a Q&A with its stars and executive producers. Chris Hardwick of fan show Talking Dead will moderate.
