Looking for a food truck like it's 2008 might be the last thing you want to do at the start of this new year 2014, but maybe keep an eye out for this one anyway: For the last few weeks, Glico USA's Pocky truck has been roaming L.A. County, stopping here and there to hand out free boxes of the Japanese treat.  You can't miss it: It's a big red truck that, as they remind you on their Facebook page, is “NOT an emergency vehicle.” Nonetheless, you still may as well stop. Because free Pocky.

The Pocky truck is touring Cerritos, Malibu and all that asphalt in between as part of its “Share Happiness” tour. Yesterday, it was handing out strawberry- and chocolate-flavored Pocky in Arcadia and Alhambra; check its Facebook and Twitter pages for updates on where it will be today, and when. If you don't happen upon it, the truck will be in the L.A. area for the next month or so.

Pocky, by the way, is named after “the onomatopoeic snapping sound made while eating it – pokkin pokkin – to the Japanese ear.” Which may or may not compel you to read Lewis Carroll while you're eating that free box of Pocky. Frabjous.
