Even as President Obama celebrates passage of his universal health-care plan, the need for medical services for Los Angeles' uninsured and under-insured is as great as ever. With that in mind, county Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas on Monday announced that a second “mega clinic,” with free exams and care, is being planned for the region.

Remote Area Medical, a nonprofit group that offers free health, dental and vision care, will be holding the event April 25 to May 3 at the Los Angeles Sports Arena, the supervisor announced.

A similar free-health-care fair last year at the Forum in Inglewood drew national attention, long lines, and 6,300 people with medical needs.
