Frank McCourt

Frank and Jamie McCourt met with a mediator on Saturday, but came away no closer to a settlement that would end their contentious divorce proceedings, according to an attorney involved in the case.

The two sides remain miles apart. Frank continues to refuse any arrangement that would give Jamie a continuing interest in the Dodgers, while Jamie won't accept anything less, in the belief that Frank doesn't have enough cash on hand to buy her out.

The Dodger divorce trial wrapped up on Sept. 29. Judge Scott Gordon is expected to issue his ruling sometime within the next couple of months.

During the trial, Frank and Jamie met behind closed doors with Judge Peter Lichtman, who served as a mediator. While that meeting did not result in a deal, both sides agreed to meet again after testimony had concluded.

They met with Lichtman again on Saturday, but the meeting was very brief, and no new mediation sessions were scheduled.

At this rate, it seems likely that any settlement will have to wait until after Gordon issues his ruling. Gordon is expected to decide on the validity of the couple's marital property agreement, which gives the Dodgers to Frank and gives Jamie the couple's houses.

If Gordon finds the agreement invalid, then Jamie could be entitled to half the Dodgers, which would probably force them to sell the team.
