High Speed Chase Ends in a Fiery Crash Killing 3 People in Fresno

FRESNO, CA (March 30, 2021) – Saturday night, 20-year-old Francisco Portillo of Fresno, was arrested after a deadly car chase on Cedar Avenue.

The accident happened around 11:00 p.m., on March 20. Emergency crews arrived at the intersection of Cedar and McKinley Avenue.

Portillo was driving a black Chevrolet Camaro at about 100 mph on McKinley Avenue. While attempting to flee from a Fresno County Sheriff’s deputy, he struck multiple other cars.

At least seven cars were involved, five of which caught fire. In addition, three people suffered life-threatening injuries before they were pronounced dead on scene. However, their identity has not been given.

Meanwhile, Portillo and his girlfriend, who was with him at the time of the crash, were taken to Community Regional Medical Center. Medics say they were in critical but stable condition.

Francisco Portillo is expected to face vehicular manslaughter charges in addition to other charges. It was uncertain as to whether or not drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
