51-Year-Old Francisco Novoa Dies after a Head-On Collision on State Route 243

GRANT COUNTY, WA (August 16, 2021) 51-year-old Francisco Novoa lost his life Sunday morning after a head-on collision on SR 243.

The crash happened in the area of State Route 243 near Desert Aire on Sunday, August 8.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Novoa was driving northbound when Sergio Lopez, driving southbound, swerved into his lane and collided head-on.

Novoa’s car then swerved into a nearby embankment. He died as a result of his injuries, and officers pronounced him dead on the scene.

Meanwhile, Lopez was rushed to Kadlec Regional Medical Center with unspecified injuries.

Furthermore, investigators stated that Lopez was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Lopez, 21, of Mattawa is charged with vehicular homicide, in addition, officers believe drugs or alcohol were involved in the fatal crash.

Authorities are still working an active investigation of the crash. Once available, more information will be released.
