It's hard to keep up with all the best new restaurants lists, but Bon Appetit's list has been a consistently reliable overview of the country's dining scene for years. Put together by restaurant editor Andrew Knowlton, the list also has generally taken more notice of L.A. restaurants than other lists. This year is no different.

On Aug. 18 the magazine will announce its top 10 best new restaurants (as well as its Best New Restaurant of the Year), but today it has released the 50 nominees. L.A. gets four spots on the list: Alimento, Jon & Vinny's, Gjusta and Petit Trois.

Each spot gets a little write-up, with recommended dishes and plenty of justified gushing for what our brilliant chefs and restaurateurs are doing. They swoon over Alimento's tortellini, Ludo's omelette and the pizza at Jon & Vinny's.

Check out the full list here, and check back in Aug. 18 to see whether any of our four made it onto the top 10 — and if we might snag the No. 1 spot once again …
