You know you love McSweeney's, that big, bad bastion of literary hepness based in the City by the Bay. We're going to turn a blind eye to the fact that they've put out Miranda July's book and concentrate on things written by people not using horribly made-up names who just “appear,” body of precious work in hand, as the next best thing, perfectly packaged for lazy editors the world over. Instead, we're going to celebrate 826LA Presents: McSweeney's #39 Release Party. There will be music, comestibles and special guests, including McSweeney's contributors Jay Caspian, Ellie Kemper (The Office), Amelia Gray and Benjamin Weissman. We promised we wouldn't reveal the super-special secret musical guest. See and be seen by people who read and are read. Yeah. 826LA, 1714 W. Sunset Blvd., Echo Park, Dec. 8, 7:30 p.m.; $24 for entrance and copy of the mag, $10 admission only. (213) 413-3388, 826la.org.

Thu., Dec. 8, 7:30 p.m., 2011
