If you're yearning to try a few of the restaurants that will be participating in the upcoming dineLA Restaurant Week (um, weeks), FoodGPS is sponsoring 2 progressive dinners to preview participating restaurants, and they're walkable. Not only can you hit a few restaurants, picked for their proximity as well as their food, on foot, but you'll have some good company too. Imagine. No valet parking; no dragging friends who'd rather be home eating cereal to some of LA's finest. Just a stroll from here to there, and some very good food. How downright civilized.

Each progressive dinner is limited to 40 people, so if you're interested, sign up soon. “The executive chefs will introduce a single course at each restaurant, and it looks like we might even have some surprises,” says FoodGPS blogger Josh Lurie.

On Wednesday, Sept. 23, the walking tour will be in Santa Monica, with stops at

Anisette, Whist at the Viceroy and the Restaurant at Hotel Shangri-La. The next night, which has a Latin theme, will be downtown, with stops at Rivera, Provecho, Ciudad and Rosa Mexicano. The cost of the Santa Monica dinner is $39 per person; the downtown dinner is $49 per person. Participate in both, and get $5 off.

DineLA restaurant week(s) take place Oct. 4-9 and Oct. 11-16, with over 200 participating restaurants offering discounted menus.
