The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced the nominations for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards this morning. Avatar leads the Best Picture category (big surprise), which has doubled in size to ten. As far as food movies go, Meryl Streep was nominated for Best Actress for Julie & Julia, and Food, Inc. is among the nominees for Best Documentary Feature.

But perhaps most endearing food movie nominated is the animated French film French Roast, for Best Animated Short Film. By Fabrice O. Joubert, the film is set entirely in a small Parisian café and tells the story of a grumpy man who, after he finds his wallet missing, drinks cup after repeating cup of coffee to prolong his stay. Hopefully the nomination means that we'll actually be able to see the film, ideally in a theater with good coffee. You may need to sneak in a thermos of espresso for this one; good thing it's a short film. (Perhaps Up, also nominated, will be playing next door.)
