Ever hear about an arcane artsy happening that you don't quite understand what it is, but it sounds cool and interesting anyway? If not, here's an example.

The MAK Center Artists and Architects in Residence Program presents “Restaurant Transformable” by Austrian artist Rainer Prohaska. It's apparently “a mixture of cooking-lab, studio, and restaurant” all in one, presented at the Rudolph Schindler-designed Mackey Apartments, where the visiting artists associated with the program reside. Two performances are scheduled: one this week on Thursday, July 30 at 7:00 p.m., and another on Thursday August 13.

Prohaska's piece “broaches the issue of cooking as an authentic form of fine and performing arts…His kitchen called 'Restaurant Transformable'…changes its shape and design at any given performance.”

Curious? Confused? We are too. At the very least, the beautiful Mackey Apartments (1939) are worth visiting.

Mackey Apartments: 1137 S. Cochran Ave., Mid-City.
