Back in June, Squid Ink sat in on one of pastry chef Amanda Broder's baking classes at Food. We were impressed that in a period of only two hours, she demonstrated six of her favorite stone fruit pastries and an uncanny aptitude for schmoozing away the stigma of perfectionistic baking. On Sunday, October 25, Broder will teach another baking class at the Pico neighborhood market/cafe, focused this time on fall fruit. She can't say exactly what'll be on the menu because she only uses the best of what's available at the market that day, but you can expect apples, pears, cranberries and squash, and of course, whole grains and butter. ($85 for the two-hour class, including drinks, an enormous box of goodies, and a recipe book. Space is limited so call to sign up early.)

Food: 10571 Pico Blvd., Los Angeles; (310) 441-7770.
