Okay, the flyer itself ain't the best — competing fonts, a non-sequitur collection of LAX, an astronaut and a zebra standing on the moon, faux-thrown-together vibe — but the intent and the message more than make up for the design deficiencies. To wit: Rong Music, which has been releasing some of the most consistently smart and funky post-disco of the past few years, is offering up the label's founder, DJ Spun, in a party “somewhere in LA” tomorrow night. It's an all-nighter, and if you feel like now's the time to get juiced up on Red Bull and amphetamines and dance all night long, your destination should be this party.

DJ Spun's created a two-way San Francisco/NYC party train in Rong. The label's physically located in New York, and hooked up with the venerable dance label DFA for distribution, and has been offering choice slices of hot disco wax at a pretty fast clip. The SF dance world has delivered a few great dance bands lately, the best being Tussle, and Rong's helped spread the word.

Spun's Bio, from the Sarcastic/Rong Party website:

He is a venerable institution in both the New York and San Francisco Music scenes. Spun heads up groundbreaking record label Rong Music and their new dual imprint collaboration with DFA as well as Rong off shoots, Tu Rong which rereleases and updates classic's from New York's legendary house label Nu Groove and Promo Only which helped to start the world wide disco edit craze. Spun is the curator and organizer of P.S.1/MoMA's prestigious Warm Up Music Series. Acknowledged as NYC's best Summertime Party, which averages 4000 attendees each Saturday.

A key player in various U.S. music scenes since the early 80's, he got his start playing in San Francisco bands and has shared the stage with such punk luminaries as the Dead Kennedy's, Black Flag and Social Distortion.

In 1987, he got his first DJ gig, an opening slot for Kurtis Blow in San Jose. From there he went on to his now legendary club nights holding residencies at numerous seminal West Coast parties. Manning the decks in countless guest spots Spun has racked up the frequent flyer miles playing at many world-renowned parties and clubs, among them San Franciscoss Wicked, Organic, Spundae, and End Up. LA's Unlock the House, New York's Centro Fly, APT.

In 1994 Spun went back in the studio and start writing and producing his own music, since then he has produced 40 records and cd's for numerous labels including NOID, Editions Disco, Big Bear, and his own Rong Music. Most recently he's remixed James Chance and the Contortions, Tussle, Mudd and Tim Love Lee and collaborated with Stranger, Olivier Spencer, Eric Duncan, Daniel Wang and Stephen Hall of Arthur Russell and Loose Joints fame.

Spun, along with partner Ben Cook, founded the trailblazing Rong Music in 2003 as a means of releasing their own style-bending, genre-blending music as well as the output of likeminded friends and peers. They have enjoyed heavy airplay and chart action from some of the best loved and most forward thinking underground DJ's everywhere. With a spate of releases from such far afield artists as jazz great Chico Hamilton, Mudd, Chicken Lips, Disco legend Gary Davis, Woolfy, and Free Blood.

Also on the bill is DJ Mudd. Read the flyer to find out details. The address is posted on the site, but publishing it here would take a little of the fun out of it, wouldn't it?
