Blogger and L.A. Weekly contributor Daniel Hernandez was away from his home in Mexico City when swine flu (or whatever they're calling it today) struck. Now he's back in the D.F. and has been rounding up stories and accounts from Country Zero. Among his morbidly funny notations:

“. . . it's impossible to get tacos anywhere.

With the population going a little stir crazy in their homes and suitably preoccupied, Congress is passing strange and frightening laws on both left and right. The Chamber of Deputies has approved the federal police law, allowing our phone conversations to be tapped. And the Senate passed a law that allows citizen[s] to possess small amounts of marijuana, opium, heroin, cocaine, LSD, and crystal meth for 'autoconsumo.'”

Before readers begin planning their next spring breaks south of the border, remember that the above pertains to Mexican citizens only. If passed.
