The Fleischer brothers started their eponymous animation studio in New York at just about the same time that more famous fella with the mouse did. But rather than rely on wise-cracking animals, the Fleischers hit it big with Betty Boop, Koko the Clown, Popeye and even Superman. To celebrate Dave and Max’s 20-year run of hits, the Trepany House is putting on Fleischer?Fest, dedicating a full day to their unmistakable influence. There will be two programs of screenings, a lecture from animation historian Jerry Beck, a sing-along with Janet Klein and a costume contest. Sure, people will dress as Betty Boop, but will anybody attempt her dog/boyfriend Bimbo?
