3 Killed, 1 Injured after Pursuit Ends in Crash near Tweedy Boulevard

LYNWOOD, CA (February 7, 2023) – Sunday morning, a multi-vehicle crash on State Street claimed the lives of Flavio Ariel Balderas, Micaela Balderas, and James Griffin III. The collision happened around 2:10 a.m., near Tweedy Boulevard in Lynwood. Initially, officers spotted an ongoing catalytic converter theft in progress in South Gate. Police started a pursuit but were eventually called off due to dangerous driving conditions. However, the chase ended when the suspect collided with another vehicle. As a result of the collision, two people sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. Paramedics rushed two others to a local hospital for treatment. One of those people died at the hospital. Later, the county coroner’s office identified the deceased victims as Flavio Ariel Balderas, 60, Micaela Balderas, and James Griffin III, 20. At this time, the condition of the other hospitalized victim is unclear.
