Busy, busy bees are the boys and girls of throwback soul here in Los Angeles.

Mayer Hawthorne has had an incredibly kind past 8 months (or so), and it now looks like the surname-lacking, stripey-haired Fitz is bound for similar success.

A handful of late-in-the-day announcements came Monday, with the latest being that Dangerbird Records has officially signed Fitz along with, of course, his band the Tantrums.

With just an EP to their band's name, Fitz and the Tantrums will also be doing a handful of dates with Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, whose Stax-y R&B is a close cousin.

What Jones has in Tina Turner-like on-stage energy, Fitzy has in straight-backed stylishness. That, and a skunk strapped to his head, but that's neither here nor there.

Better yet, in order to celebrate these considerable boons (minus the skunk), the Tantrums are doing a victory lap throughout June at Spaceland, holding a month-long Thursday-night residency therein.

And last but not least, the local six-piece has given a name to its pending full-length debut. Pickin' Up the Pieces will be out later this year and, according to the press release, promises to deliver “a burst of effervescent swingers.” We're not quite sure how they meant that, but either way, we're intrigued.
