In a program titled The Tale: Npinpee Nckutchie & the Tail of the Golden Dek, choreographer Reggie Wilson and his eight time-traveling dancers use dance to explore the African diaspora. From the early fist-and-heel dances (physical, percussive expressions developed by African slaves denied their traditional drums) through step dances that evolved into popular social dance styles, including the Lindy Hop and the Hustle, the eclectic result is what Wilson himself describes as “post-African Neo Hoodoo Modern Dance.” Check out this intriguing juxtaposition of tradition and cutting edge when this New York troupe makes its SoCal debut at REDCAT, 631 W. Second St., dwntwn.; Fri.-Sat., April 6-7, 8:30 p.m.; Sun., April 8, 3 p.m.; $20-$24, $16-$18 students. (213) 237-2800.
