Authorities Tuesday afternoon continued to search for a suspect who stabbed a firefighter while he was rendering aid to a patient downtown, police said.

The stabbing near Sixth and Main streets on the western boundary of Skid Row was reported at 10:50 a.m., Los Angeles police Officer Rosario Herrera told the Weekly. It wasn't clear if the stabber and the patient were on and the same. The firefighter was hospitalized and said to be stable, Herrera said.

The suspect reportedly fled into the nearby Hotel Cecil, with police searching the building floor-by-floor.

“A perimeter was established around the structure and a systematic search is under

way at this time,” LAPD Capt. Todd Chamberlain said this afternoon.
