When you pair up British guitar icon Andy Summers — remember the Police and Eric Burdon and the Animals? — and the awesome performer-composer-teacher Benjamin Verdery, who's been hailed as “an American original, an American master,” and you plop them down at USC's Bovard Auditorium for An Evening With Andy Summers and Benjamin Verdery, well, wow. The world of classical guitar just might never be the same. The two legends have influenced generations of musicians along a wide spectrum of genres, and they're always inventing new ways of being creative. Although Verdery is chair of the guitar department at Yale, he's anything but stuffy; at his master classes, he's apt to show up in wildly patterned shirts, shorts and sandals, looking more like a Honolulu hippie than a revered music prof. The two old pros will be teaming up for duos and jamming with Thornton School guitar students, and the whole thing spells F-U-N.
