Billed as the largest St. Patrick’s Day party on the west side, the first annual St. Penmar’s Day: Festival on the Green tees off at Penmar Golf Course on Friday, March 17. Shenanigans begin at 2 p.m., and include the Venice Duck Green Beer Garden; live music from Jack of Hearts (Bob Dylan Tribute Band), Johnny Marfa & The Lights; a special bagpipe performance by City of Angels Pipe Band; DJ Coowhip; Bushmills VIP Lounge (21+); whiskey tastings, Irish food and drink specials; face painting; giveaways; costume contests; photo booth; beer pong; cornhole; and more. Attendees are encouraged to dress in the finest shade of green and bring a blanket for the lawn. 

Food and drink offerings include the classic corned beef and cabbage with Colcannon Irish potatoes and crunchy bread, Irish nachos, burgers, pizzas, and tacos along with a pop-up from The Gastro Garage blowtorching their famous nitrous injected brioche-style donuts. Venice Duck Brewing Co will host the green beer garden and Bushmills Irish Whiskey (21+) VIP Lounge with a DIY Irish Coffee Bar; premier seating; whiskey tastings; and raffle off a Golf Bag full of golf swag. Follow the rainbow to Tam O’Shanter for its annual St. Patty’s Day Bash on Friday, March 17.  Festivities  begin at noon throughout the patio and in various tents filled with food, beverages and live entertainment. To enter the tent, there is a $10 cover charge, or guests have the option to purchase VIP tickets for $149 per person. VIP tickets include exclusive  patio seating (ages 21+ only) away from the crowds, reserved seating inside of the music tent, five drink tickets for beverages, a complimentary menu of snacks, a VIP bar on the patio, and entry into three exclusive raffles for prizes worth more than $200 each. 

The bars throughout the event will feature Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey and Guinness — VIP ticket holders can get $2 drink specials. Food fare will include turkey, corned beef or brisket sandwiches on a Kaiser roll or rye bread. Chips, cookies, bottled water and soda also will be available for purchase.

The Original Farmers Market celebration kicks off at lunchtime on March 17 with Glen the Strolling Bagpiper from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Magee’s Kitchen will serve a traditional Irish corned beef with cabbage and potatoes plate and Du-par’s will offer the same with a slice of pie. Top off your meal with a pint of Guinness Irish Stout or green beer from E.B.’s Beer & Wine or locally brewed Dry Irish Stout or an Irish Pale Ale from Bar 326.

The Merry Minstrels West Patio musical performance takes place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and more food can be found in the West Patio, including Pasta Corner’s spaghetti green pesto at a special holiday price and Local Ice’s handmade St. Patrick’s Day flavors with Irish Coffee, Dark Chocolate Guinness, and Whiskey Caramel Ice Cream.

In celebration of St. Patrick’s Day on Friday, March 17, Barney’s Gourmet Burgers will offer 50% off fries, sides, draft beer and select glasses of wine when ordering any Specialty Burger or Signature Salad. This offer is available exclusively at Barney’s Gourmet Burgers at Calabasas. To redeem, customers just need to mention this deal to their server.  

Beginning at 11 a.m., on St. Patrick’s Day, NORMS, will offer a $15.99 four-course special that will be available both in-store and online for dine-in and to-go orders, including corned beef and cabbage with Irish potatoes,  soup of the day, choice of side Cesar or mixed green salad, one scoop of mint chocolate chip ice cream, and a celebratory glass of green lemonade also will be available for an additional charge.

Irish Julep

  • Grab a rocks glass
  • Add 1/2 ounce simple syrup
  • 6 mint leaves crush to release oils
  • 1 1/2 ounces of Off Hours Bourbon
  • Top with crushed ice and stir
  • Add another 1 1/2 ounces of Off Hours Bourbon and more crushed ice
  • Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint

The Daily Grind

Ingredients:

1 ounce Off Hours Bourbon Whiskey

1 ounce Disaronno

2 ounces La Colombe Triple Latte

.25 ounce Maraschino liqueur

.25 ounce Maple syrup

Nutmeg

Directions:

  1. Add Off Hours Bourbon, Disaronno, La Colombe Triple Latte, Maraschino liqueur and Maple syrup to a shaker filled with ice and shake until well-chilled.
  2. Strain into a Coupe glass.
  3. Garnish with grated nutmeg.
