Move over Francesco Scavullo, Patrick Demarchelier and Matthew Rolston: 10 contenders from around the country, who each hope to be the “next top fashion photographer,” will present their best images from July Fashion Week in “Paris at Le Mode de Paris et l'art Comme l'un” (Paris Fashion & Art as One), an opening-night soiree and ongoing exhibit to promote new faces behind the camera. Featured will be a 1930s bordello series shot in the Montparnasse area by the students, as well as the work of fashion photographer Steven Silverstein, who installed the show and mentored the students in Paris. It's a chance to mix with other young photogs and pick Silverstein's brain, since he's worked for Elle, Vogue Homme, Yves St. Laurent, Georges Chakra, BCBG, Catherine Deneuve, Eva Mendes and Charlize Theron. artLab, 1410 Montana Ave., Santa Monica; Tues., Aug. 17, 7:30-9:30 p.m., free. Through Oct. 31. (310) 255-9900, artlabsalon.com/events.
