Back in the spring, John Waters set out on a hitchhiking trek from Baltimore to San Francisco, getting picked up by a Maryland councilman, a rock band and others along the way. Waters hopes to turn his cross-country trip into a book, though the filmmaker doesn't need a whole lot of new fodder for tonight's one-man show, This Filthy World: Gayer and Filthier. In his first This Filthy World tour in 2006, the self-anointed “elder filth” delved into all things depraved that have inspired his career and beyond, from underground movies to influential directors to favorite muses, including Divine, Mink Stole and Traci Lords. “Even Divine had limits,” Waters said. “The first time he met Richard Simmons, he felt homophobic.” You might be surprised to hear that the director who once made his leading lady eat dog shit has his limits, too. “I have big trouble with the adult baby community,” Waters said. “I don't get it. I've seen their brochures. I'm against this. I'm sorry.” The poor, dead souls he'll be standing above are already rolling in their graves.
