In conjunction with the Hammer exhibition Between Heaven and Earth: The Architecture of John Lautner, the Archive presents a program of films in which “directors engage with architecture on the architects' own turf,” shooting on location and on site. Tonight, the series begins with an evening of Modern Shorts Selected by Terence Gower, featuring a collection of works questioning and humanizing the “clean, idealized” image of modern architecture, including Ciudad Moderna (2004, Gower), 10104 Angelo View Drive (2004, Dorit Margreiter), Le Baiser (1999, Iñigo Manglano-Ovalle), Interiors (2006, Ursula Mayer), New Ark (2001, François Boué), The Sneeze (2008, Ulrik Heltoft), Water and Dust (2004, Sadie Murdoch), Unite Mobile (2005, Domènec) and Rong Xiang (2008, Caspar Stracke).
