Todd Haynes tackles American big business and unchecked profit motive in his new legal thriller, Dark Waters. The film is based on Nathaniel Rich’s 2016 article that chronicled the fate of several West Virginians after they imbibed water polluted by a nearby DuPont plant. It’s a classic David versus Goliath story, well stocked with accomplished performers including Mark Ruffalo, Anne Hathaway, Tim Robbins, Victor Garber and Bill Pullman. ArcLight, 6360 Sunset Blvd., Hollywood; Thu., Nov. 21, 6, various showtimes; $16-$18; (323) 615-2550, arclightcinemas.com.
