Local hoofers take center stage at the L.A. Dance Showcase, with the added attraction of free catering from gourmet food trucks and free signature cocktails. Each dance company brings to the fore its own take on time, movement and urgency — tonight’s lineup includes the 1930s melodrama of Louise Reichlin/L.A. Choreographers & Dancers’ “Tap-Dance Widows Club” and the Antics Performance company’s unique somatic take on hip-hop, which literally involves hops and hips. Dances from across the spectrum are represented in living color courtesy of 10 L.A. dance companies, with about 15 minutes allotted for each company, so there’s never a dull moment — although if you expect to see the Curly Shuffle or the Scarn, you might come away a bit disappointed. Moss Theater at New Roads School, 3131 Olympic Blvd., Santa Monica; Tues., Aug. 27, 8 p.m. (bar opens at 7 p.m.; doors open at 7:40 p.m.), $15. (310) 245-6898, invertigodance.org/lads/info.
